Agents of the Tactical Force of the Military Police of São Paulo broke down the door of a cellar and attacked several people who were in the premises. It all happened in the early hours of last Sunday, 15. As shown by Fantasticaround 2 am the youths had crowded in the street and the noise disturbed the surrounding area. For this reason the Military Police was called. The officers threw gas bombs to disperse the people.
From there, security footage shows officers positioning themselves in front of a small winery. The owner said he had not promoted the party in the street and that, with the arrival of police in the neighborhood and the influx of people, he thought it would be best to lower the shop door. Some customers of the establishment remained inside.
And then the attacks began. The police demanded that they open the cellar, according to the owner, shouting and threatening to kill them. “I said, ‘Gentlemen, I have a side gate. If you wait, I’ll open it. But the way you are, there’s no way. The way you say they’ll kill, they’ll kill… I’ll open it and you’ll kill us,’” the man, whose identity was not revealed, said in an interview with Fantastic.
Tactical Force officers begin to break down the door, kicking it 37 times, and manage to break it down.
When they entered, they pushed the counter and started attacking the people who were there. From the images it is possible to observe that none of the people resisted and, despite this, they were subjected to aggression. At no time did the agents search the people or follow any type of protocol.
In one attack, for example, a customer in the cellar hallway was hit 17 times with a truncheon. The last one was on the head, when he was on the floor with his hands up. “This guy starts screaming for the love of God, for the love of God. And then he starts hitting, hitting, hitting. And he said, ‘Not even God will save you,’” a witness recalled.
The attacks continued in a room where the family in charge of the establishment was located. The police attacked the owner’s son and after the man and the boy’s stepmother asked for calm, the officers also attacked the couple. Including pointing a gun at the woman.
“He called us whores, sluts. ‘Shut up, slut.’ It was me and my daughter-in-law at the time,” the woman said. The daughter-in-law was also hit.
The cellar was monitored by more than a dozen cameras, and according to the victims, the attacks increased when the officers realized they could be filmed. “They take it and say, ‘Where is the camera stand? I will kill your children. You won’t hand over the media?’ I said I wouldn’t hand it over because I didn’t have it,” the owner told the reporter. Prosecutors searched for the recordings but couldn’t find them.
In the last room there was no monitoring. And it was there, according to the entrepreneur, that he suffered the worst attacks. In the room were his other 6-year-old son and his 13-year-old daughter. The girl fainted.
Five slot machines were seized as a result of the action. The dealer and his son were taken to the police station in handcuffs and are now free on minor charges.
What the police say
In the report drawn up at the time, around 6.50 am, the police stated that there had been “active resistance to the approach, which required the use of physical force, in order to reduce the fighting capacity of the people involved”.
The report also states that the owner of the winery had fired several firecrackers and bombs at the police, who then hid in the premises. This version does not reflect the camera recordings.
In a note to the program, the Military Police reported that “as soon as it became aware of the images, it ordered an immediate investigation into the facts.” In the meantime, the officers involved were reassigned to administrative functions.
“The Institution does not tolerate excesses or deviations in behavior, severely punishing any irregularity found,” they add. The Internal Affairs Division of the Military Police is investigating the case.
