For the magazine PeopleSonja White, 46, said the idea came after a lot of brainstorming for National Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated in September and October in the country, which has many Latino residents. She said many of the students had never flown before and wanted to create something culturally interesting.
That day, White transformed the first-class classroom into an airplane. He played a TSA agent, a security professional who screens baggage and passengers at U.S. airports and checks specially made boarding passes and carry-on bags outside.

Once everyone was seated, the passengers jumped in their seats to pretend to take off with the sound and audio of YouTube videos, which were projected on a screen at the front of the classroom. As a flight attendant, the teacher handed out chips and drinks to the little ones. When they “disembarked,” they appeared in Mexico!
At this point, the professional enlisted the help of a student called “Nia”, who was the great inspiration for the game, who is Mexican and was very enthusiastic about welcoming her colleagues in Spanish.
“She said the best part was that we got to travel together, her and I, and that she was able to show me Mexico,” the teacher told People in November last year.
White also invited Nia’s mother to help with the trip. She offered typical dishes, such as enchiladas, rice, chips with salsa, and tres leches cake, at a “Mexican restaurant.” The students also practiced their financial skills to pay for the meal and shop at the village gift shop.

The whole thing was recorded and posted to the teacher’s Tik Tok account (watch the video above). The post currently has over 4 million views on the platform. White says the students loved the game. “I feel like they really loved it,” White says. “I feel like, in a way, their imaginations kind of let them believe that we actually went to Mexico.”
The success was such that an airline called “Southwest Airlines” invited all 70 children on a field trip to a campus in Dallas, where each had the opportunity to ride a real plane. After the adventure, the students organized a party complete with a mariachi band and Mexican food.
“I want them to have culture, not just book smarts,” she says. “I really hope that later in life they have a real desire to travel. […] I don’t want this to be the end for them, ‘a fake trip to Mexico.’ I want them to take their passports and leave.”
