Sentenced thirty years ago for the murders of their own parents, Lyle and Erik Menendezin fact, would be innocent? The case became a topic again with the release of Monsters: Menendez Brothers: Parent Killersa new Netflix miniseries, which recalls the shocking crime, and a documentary reveals a group of fans, who use social media to defend the brothers.

The Menendez Brothers: Murderers or Survivors? addresses the phenomenon of TikTok users — popularly known as TikTokers — who analyze the history of Menendez and create videos to claim that the brothers killed their parents, Joseph and Maria “Kitty” Menendezto save himself from years of physical and sexual abuse.

The Investigation Discovery production, launched in 2022, shows how several users of the social network, especially the youngest ones, popularized Lyle and Erik Menendez on TikTok, initially for their good looks. Later, other TikTokers began to criticize the sexualization of the brothers and began fighting to prove the duo’s innocence and demand their freedom.
