The new biopic of Janis Joplin will detail the artist’s “last days” before her death at the age of 27.
“I’ve waited decades for this film to be made,” he said. Linda Perrycomposer and collaborator, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly (via NME). “There are no words to explain how honored I am to have been included in what I believe is a raw and honest portrayal of the final days of Janis Joplin.”
“The emotional commitment and dedication of Shailene Woodley to do Janis is inspiring. I believe in her!” he continued.Shailene lives for art, and I can’t think of anyone better to portray such a powerful, emotional, and complex artist.”
Woodley will take on the lead role and produce the film. She revealed that she discovered she could sing during rehearsals for the filming. “California meant so much to Janis Joplin —from the steps of San Francisco to the wooden walls of Sunset Sound, the state became the stage upon which she explored not only the world of music, but also the world of her vibrant humanity,” the actress said (via NME).
“I have a feeling that Janis I’ll be smiling from ear to ear, walking through [rodovia] PCH in his psychedelic Porsche knowing that his story is bringing opportunities and funding to the city and the people who meant so much to it,” he added.
