The filmmaker would be working on productions after Assassinos da Lua das Flores, released in 2023, but both were paused, according to Variety
The biopic of Frank Sinatra and the biblical epic about the life of Jesus Christwhich Martin Scorsese (Flower Moon Assassins) planned to start filming later this year, were postponed indefinitely. The information is from Variety.
According to previously released information, the first project would be a film about the life and career of the American singer and producer Frank Sinatrawhich would be interpreted by Leonardo DiCapriolong-time partner of Scorsese.
In addition to the actor in the main role, Jennifer Lawrence had also been cast in the novelty as the actress and singer Ava Gardner — considered one of the 50 greatest movie stars in the history of the United States —, with whom Sinatra was married between 1951 and 1957, after the end of his marriage with Nancy Barbato.
Despite the intention to Scorsesethe film still needed approval from Tina Sinatradaughter of the artist and responsible for controlling her father’s estate. She would have turned her nose up at the idea of the plot revolving around the love triangle between Sinatra, Gardner and your mother, Barbatoand would be resisting the idea of giving the family’s blessing to the film.
While that didn’t happen, Scorsese was also working on a biblical film, The Life of Jesus(The Life of Jesusin free translation), based on the novel A Life of Jesusby Shūsaku Endō, released in 1973.
The novelty must explore the human and divine aspects of Jesus Christsomething similar to what the filmmaker did in The Last Temptation of Christfrom 1988. Scorsese hopes to film in Israel, Italy and Egypt, but locations have not yet been confirmed.
The idea for The Life of Jesus would have appeared after a meeting between the filmmaker and the Pope Francis in early 2023. The filmmaker even stated that the film’s script would already be ready and cited The Gospel According to Saint Matthew(1964), from Pier Paolo Pasolinias an inspiration for the project.
