Arriving on 6th September 2023, Tomorrow Belongs to Us, Melody (Nellie Lawson) made a very notable entry into the daily TF1 series.
It must be said that the sports teacher almost lost his life in the collapse of Agnes Varda High School. Fortunately, the young woman was saved by George (Mayel Elhajaoui). From this incredible meeting, a beautiful love story was born.
If the couple had happy days, an unexpected twist disrupted their daily life. And for good reason, Melody came to the set to be closer to her son Bastien (Nicolas Jacqueens), whom she abandoned. And if the teenager did not want to know anything about his mother, recent events made him see things differently. Mother and daughter are slowly getting to know each other, what do the writers have in store for them in the coming weeks?
Nellie Lawson, the translator of the tune, met during the La Rochelle Art Festival, spoke to Alocine about the future of her character.
Allociné: At the beginning of your adventures in Tomorrow Belongs to Us, did you know that Melody’s character would become established and an important character over time?
Nellie Lawson : In no case! I knew it was going to be a new character, but I didn’t think Melody would be so integrated into the town of Seth and the series. It was a pleasant surprise.
Were you surprised that Melody was the mother of a young teenager?
completely! I thought it was a great idea because it brings a whole story into the character’s life.
A beautiful story is written between Bastien and Melody. We feel that mother and daughter are slowly getting to know each other. What can we expect in the next episodes?
It is not easy, because Bastien wants it, but at the same time, he is rejected. He has experienced many traumatic events, so it is difficult for him to trust Melody. On the other hand, he really tries to participate in his son’s life by participating in his association.
We are currently filming a Christmas episode where Bastien is going to organize an event for his association and Melody will be singing a song for the occasion. Little by little things are happening even if it’s not really easy, especially for Bastien. Melody, on the other hand, is really looking forward to playing this role of her mother.
Will it be long then?
It will be a little long, yes, but it will be done eventually.
Can Bastien move in with Georges and Melody?
This would be the next logical step. After that, I think it’s pretty tough on Bastien’s part. Here we are really at the beginning of making a connection with the melody. Moving on to Georges as father-in-law and Lucien as half-brother, I don’t think we’re there yet.
On the high school side, what’s in store for Melody in the next few episodes?
There are very beautiful scenes between François (Emmanuel Moir) and Melody. Whether it’s a famous Christmas event where we combine music and I sing. And then there is the character of Mia (Yaël Ciancilla), who also makes us discover a hidden talent. This is a very beautiful, joyful thing at the end of the year.
We ultimately know little about Melody’s character. Can we learn more about his past? Could his family have landed in Sete, for example?
I don’t know. In any case, I realized that the authors left themselves with the possibility of this at the given moment. When we found out that Bastien was Melody’s son, the authors wanted to return to the family affairs, but then told themselves that this was not the right time. They try to hold on a bit so that they have flexibility and a range of possibilities for what they write next. That’s what makes this series so good, because all these fates are intertwined.
Do you have any projects outside of tomorrow’s episode that you can talk about?
I played in the Panda TV series and Maurice Barthelemy’s directorial unit.
