The Young and the Restless: “Jack is desperate for a relationship with his granddaughter Alice,” Peter Bergman reveals

Currently on The Young and the Restless on TF1 (Monday to Friday at 11am), Jack discovers that his sightless son Kimo has died. But at the same time he will learn that he has become a father! Thus, Peter Bergman’s character Eli (Kelsey Wang) becomes a grandfather overnight…

In Los Angeles, along with Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), the patriarch of the Abbott clan investigates his son’s past and his desire to meet a young woman. But will Ali let himself get close? And who sent Jack those anonymous messages clearly telling him to come here?

Exclusively for AlloCiné, Peter Bergman reveals the continuation of Jack’s adventures in The Young and the Restless…

AlloCiné: You played Jack in The Young and the Restless on November 27, 1989 in the United States. How was your first day on set?

Peter Bergman: I was reprising the role previously played by Terry Lester. By the time I arrived, everyone on the set already knew more about Jack Abbott than I did! It was very intimidating… The team members couldn’t wait for me to tell them everything, but I had to concentrate not to listen to them so that I could find my own Jack on the first day.

Did you then imagine that after several decades you would still be in the credits of the series?

I imagined doing this work for six months. That was my challenge. If I was successful, then I planned to move my family to California – I had young children at the time – and really start my career here as soon as I got laid off! Then it was six months, six months and six months… Now I’m almost 35 years old.

In the episodes offered on TF1, Jack has just discovered that his son Kimo has died. How does he feel about this tragedy?

Jack was not a good father to Kemo, to be fair. He realizes this when he goes to his son’s house with Phyllis. He discovers that he knows nothing about his son, who has become a man with his own family. For this new Jack, who has become the patriarch of the Abbots, it’s terrifying. He feels very insecure in Los Angeles.

Jack discovers there that Kemo had a daughter, Ali, who is therefore his granddaughter. Will they build relationships?

For the reason I just said, he desperately wants to be with Alice. He said it would somehow make up for what he didn’t do with Keemo. If Jack wasn’t there for the latter, today he is determined to be there for his grandson.

How will “The Young and the Restless” deal with him in this new role of grandfather?

Years ago, when Jack’s father died, many things changed for him. A lot of things! In particular, he realized that it was now up to him to keep his family together. This was a decisive moment for him. Therefore, becoming a grandfather is a role for which he has already prepared. He is looking forward to it! It happens suddenly, but he is already a follower.

Jack investigates with his ex Phil. Is it really over between them?

Jack and Phyllis have a long history in common. It’s not all rosy… but if you have to name the woman who has influenced him the most, it’s a close second between his mother and Phyllis. His mother abandoned him at a young age and it took his life in a completely different direction.

Then Phyllis… she was a priori the least suitable for Jack, but their personality differences allowed him to find the greatest love of his life with her. In Los Angeles, they begin to trust each other again. She also believes that he is generous and considerate there. Phyllis is more supportive of him.

The soap opera The Young and the Restless airs Monday to Friday on TF1 from 11am.
