The bookmaker Pixbet stopped sponsoring Timão at the beginning of the year and is now reporting non-payment by the Sao Paulo club
The court of the state of Sao Paulo ordered on Tuesday (1) the seizure of R$ 21.4 million from the accounts of Corinthians for not respecting an agreement signed with the bookmaker Pixbet, the club’s former sponsor. Indeed, in February this year, Timão agreed to pay R$40.1 million to Pixbet, as well as R$4 million in compensation to the company’s lawyers.
However, according to the bookmaker, the board of directors of the Sao Paulo club did not fulfill the agreement and only paid the first seven installments (a down payment of R$6 million plus six installments of R$3.1 million) . Since the club did not honor the payment due on September 16, Pixbet decided to take the matter to court.
“At the time (January) we managed to seize the club’s accounts and signed an agreement between the parties. However, Corinthians stopped paying from the seventh installment onwards, which led us to resume enforcement to collect the open-air installments, plus fines and legal costs,” said Nelson Wilians, who represents the bookmaker.
Corinthians can appeal the decision
Corinthians can appeal the decision of judge Paulo Rogério Santos Pinheiro. The company’s branding was printed on the shoulder of Timão’s shirt, but the club removed it from the kit following the agreement with VaideBet, announced on January 7.
