Stevie Nicks released “The Lighthouse,” a women’s rights anthem. Co-written with Magnus Birgersson and Vincent Villuis, the track begins with Nicks’ vocals and subtle instrumentation, before transforming into a full-blown rocker. Nicks co-produced the song with Dave Cobb and Sheryl Crow, with the latter contributing guitar and bass.

In the music video, Nicks appears inside a lighthouse, surrounded by iconic images of Stevie (white doves and gothic chandeliers), accompanied by female protest signs. Soon, he leads a powerful crowd of women onto a turbulent beach, charging forward forcefully.

“I wrote this song a few months after Roe v. Wade (which guarantees abortion in the United States) has been removed,” Nicks said in a statement. “It seemed like overnight people were saying, ‘What can we as a collective force do about this?’ For me it was writing a song. It took a while because I was traveling. Then, early one morning, I was watching the news on TV and a certain anchor said something that seemed to speak to me directly, explaining what the loss of the case meant. Roe v. Wade would mean. I wrote the song the next morning and recorded it that night.”

He continued: “It was September 6, 2022. I’ve been working on it ever since. I often said to myself, “This might be the most important thing I’ve ever done.” To defend the women of America, their daughters and granddaughters, and the men who love them. This is an anthem.”

Earlier this month, Nicks praised Taylor Swift’s viral post in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, posting a similar photo showing a dog instead of a cat. “As my friend Taylor Swift so eloquently said, now is the time to research and choose the candidate who speaks to you and your beliefs,” she wrote.
