DAN DA DAN : an anime not to be missed
At the end of September we announced the imminent arrival of DAN DA DAN. Created by Yukinobu Tatsu, the original manga has been published since 2021 on the online reading platform Shōnen Jump+ and has accumulated more than 370 million views. Therefore it is an understatement to say that its adaptation into an animated series was planned. And seeing the first episode, published online From October 3rd on Netflix, ADN and Crunchyrollwe can expect that success will also be there. A first chapter that allows us to establish the main lines of the plot, and which is enough to hook the viewer, both through its characters and with the visual proposals and the tone adopted.
DAN DA DAN is equally inspired by science fiction and horrorsince these are ghosts and extraterrestrials. For Momo Ayase, a high school student just dumped by an abusive boyfriend, aliens cannot exist. The girl, nervous after the breakup, decides to help Ken Takakura, who is being harassed in another class.
The latter initially thinks that the teenager’s intervention comes from the fact that she also believes in UFOs. In reality it’s quite the opposite, but Ayase is convinced that ghosts exist. An aberration for Takakura. With opposing beliefs, the two high school students will therefore put themselves to the test. Ayase will go to a place where it would be possible to see aliens, and Takakura to a cave where there are spirits. Both will then be very surprised to find out both were right.
A visual slap and hilarious dialogues
The first episode of DAN DA DAN quickly engages the viewer a crazy and bold atmosphere. Like these terrifying aliens who kidnap Ayase to breed with her against her will. We are not far from falling into horror when faced with this rape situation. But the series finds a good balance to stay more funny than shocking. Ayase’s dialogue and reaction made the difference. We will note this in passing the quality of the VF.
Visually, DAN DA DAN it’s also a stunning proposition with an explosion of colors and dynamic motion effects. There’s no time to be bored psychedelic sequences going a hundred miles an hour. Finally, in addition to the adventure that awaits Ayase and Takakura after having developed exceptional skills, the meeting of the two heroes allows you to immediately become attached to them.
