“Acting master class!” : There’s a theme everyone agrees on in the Netflix Top 5

Issue 1: Monsters: The Story of Lyle and Eric Menendez

The disturbing story of two brothers, Lyle and Eric Menendez, who were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents.

Viewer rating: 3.8/5

According to Pablo Laviolette (4.5 out of 5)

“I loved the series. The soundtrack, the cinematography and above all the excellent acting from the whole cast (especially Bardem, more believable in this role and I found the sons). I appreciated the remaining ambiguity. We have different views about what really happened in each episode About what could have happened from one episode to the next, and the writers tell us that different parties take place.

According to Helen (4.5 out of 5)

“Episode 5: One shot scene, 1 character in a freeze frame recounting the abuse he endured for 33 minutes, an acting master class! This scene alone is worth watching the series, on the other hand, sensitive souls beware. …This story from a true story until the last episode Makes us anxious to see!”

by Cubitus (2.5 out of 5)

“I really liked the beginning of the series, but then it gets dirty, drags on. Long monologues endless and repetitive. The novel becomes indigestible, even if it was already very unhealthy. Much less good than Dahmer.”

why does it work

For the third week in a row at the top of the Monsters Top 5, Season 2 of the Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan-imagined anthology. If we’ve noticed a slowdown in viewership, the series continues to generate a lot of ink between appearances by Erik Menendez, the family, and the showrunner… One thing’s for sure, Netflix has made it possible to offer these two. Criminals welcome the spotlight, which can be beneficial to them.

Number 2: Nobody wants it

An incredible relationship between an outspoken, agnostic woman and an unconventional rabbi.

Viewer rating: 3.8/5

According to Seb_1109 (5/5):

Great big crush. I loved the characters, all very well drawn, ultimately quite complex and generally engaging. The story isn’t very captivating, you have to watch everything at once because it’s not the kind of series that makes you pause.

But it’s so pure and honest in approach. Actors carry these film series (because in my opinion there should have been a film). They are new, good, very convincing. Bravo for sharing! The Jewish mother in her ultra-stereotypical role is perfect!

According to Laurie James (4/5):

Yes, that’s right! It’s full of clichés. But the main thing is the pleasure we get from watching. Most of the situations may be relatable, but we keep smiling because the characters make this series special.

Rabin and his Shiksa are cute and their chemistry is great. Silly brothers/sisters are so funny. Parents are impossible, as in any good comedy. The story has just begun, we have very high hopes for the second season.

According to Marika1004 (3/5):

A favorite series that looks at itself. Quite romantic, well behaved and quite funny. It’s very cliche and American. It is not transcendental.

why does it work

Netflix subscribers needed a dose of humor and love, and they found it in Nobody Wants This. The series was able to attract a large audience thanks to its cast of nostalgic millennial icons (Kristen Bell, of Veronica Mars and Gossip Girl fame, and Adam Brody, of Newport Beach fame), its fresh and modern storyline, and its fast pace. format to watch.

Number 3: Heartstopper

Charlie wants to tell Nick that he loves her. Nick also has something important to say to Charlie. The end of summer vacation is approaching and friends are realizing that the school year will be full of joys and challenges. They’re discovering themselves, exploring their relationships, planning events and parties, starting to think about college, and realizing that you have to learn to lean on the people close to you when things don’t go as planned.

Viewer rating: 4.3/5

According to Flo Szaro (5/5):

But they are cute!!! This series is helpful! An anthem against homophobia, transphobia… but for love and consent (every time things get a little hot, the hero secures his partner’s consent!!!).

I regret not having this model when I was younger, replacing this patriarchal model of the couple that I was sold over the years. As a heterosexual almost 40 year old, I enjoy every season and love them all.

According to golum2310 (4/5):

Definitely a more mature season, more mature subjects. The series is growing with its audience, but perhaps lacks the intense and sparkling scenes of the beginning.

According to Gentilbordelais (2/5):

“Season 3 begins with the same auspices and the same drag. The surprising variety in favor of surprises and the general natural acceptance of those around us raises questions and sends a somewhat distorted message to its teenage target.

Naive and watered down, with a plot that goes around in many circles, the season ends with its own questions that imply a sequel. But we wonder if the streak should finally end there!”

why does it work

Heartstopper is one of the favorite teen series among the platform’s subscribers for its education, kindness, pleasant side and great diversity of its characters, which allows the audience to identify. After two fairly light seasons, the series, adapted from Alice Oseman’s graphic novels, takes a more grown-up angle and takes Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick’s (Keith Connor) relationship to the next level.

Number 4: The perfect couple

A lavish wedding ends in disaster before it begins when a body is discovered in Nantucket Harbor hours before the ceremony. All guests are suddenly suspicious.

Viewer rating: 3.1/5

by Oana R (3/5)

We will say that I liked it better overall, I had a good time, you shouldn’t be taken seriously, it’s just a series to escape from thinking about nothing, the actors are good, the casting is good, only the “intruder” Isabelle Ajani who is redundant, out of place, I really don’t see what she’s doing there, but hey. …it’s not a drama either, I wasn’t bored in short.

according to Marika 1004 (2.5/5)

A beautiful series in Agatha Christie mode among the rich behind closed doors. It’s worth watching. But nothing unusual. The acting and speeches are not very sophisticated.

by odile304 (3/5)

3* “Not bad”, nothing more. This series lacks salt and pepper and is therefore very long and tasteless. Nicole Kidman and Isabelle Ajani are so botoxed that it is very unpleasant to look at them, they have no expression on their faces, shame on the actors! damage

why does it work

We have to believe that Nicole Kidman has become Netflix’s new cash machine. With practically no promotion, the series kept its place in the top 5 of the platform for weeks. We cannot give all the credit for this success to Nicole Kidman. A perfect couple, without being original, benefits from an effective detective intrigue. Either way, it’s enough to make us want to see the next episode every time.

Number 4: The Amazing Digital Circus

After donning a virtual reality headset, a man is trapped in a circus-themed digital world where he assumes the avatar of a joker and meets five other people who share his condition and cannot remember their names or details of their past. . The young woman is given the new name “Pomni” by the circus leader, an artificial intelligence named Kane, who has the appearance of a prosthesis that controls the digital world and offers them adventures so they don’t go crazy. Six now struggles to maintain their sanity in the digital world, while Pomni searches for an elusive exit.

why does it work

Originally a web series, the amazing digital circus seems to have become a real phenomenon on the networks when the first episode was released on YouTube in October 2023. Its original history and unusual design seem to attract the public. First and foremost is the topic of the existential gap that the digital world can present to Generation Z. With only 3 episodes of around 25 minutes, The Amazing Digital Circus achieves a great performance by integrating this top.
