Director of ‘Joker: Delirium for Two’ explains absence of scene with Lady Gaga’s lesbian kiss

Leaked footage went viral on social media before the film’s premiere, but was left out of the final version that went to theaters

One of the most popular comments on Joker: Delirium for Twonew film by Todd Phillips starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenixwas the absence of a scene in which the actress kisses another woman.

In the leaked footage, Gaga – who plays the character Harley Quinn – grabs a woman in the middle of a crowd of protesters and kisses her on the mouth. The clipping went viral before the film’s release, but was left out of the final edit.

The director and writer Todd Phillips explained the decision to EntertainmentWeekly (via Oct):

The scene had dialogue and, suddenly, I preferred it to be more of a musical and vibrant moment. For that moment to make sense, there needed to be a conversation behind it. I mean, the woman said something, and then Gaga stopped and kissed her, but that would kind of ruin the moment.”
