Data from the National Confederation of Municipalities indicate a notable increase in the percentage of re-elected people, which historically is around 60%
A survey by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) shows that eight out of ten mayoral candidates who attempted re-election this year were successful. Of the 3,006 who sought a second term, 2,444 will be reappointed. The number could increase, as there are still victories to be confirmed by the Electoral Tribunal.
According to the survey, the percentage of people re-elected this year is 81%, while historically the rate has been around 60%. In 2016, the culmination of the political crisis, the percentage was 46%, the only exception.
According to the CNM, 5,471 mayors have been elected and 46 are still awaiting a court decision. Another 52 cities will have disputes in the second round, such as São Paulo, where the current mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB) is seeking re-election against federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL).
