Milan, 2030: Eight years ago, the independent spy agency Citadel was destroyed by the powerful enemy syndicate Manticore. Since then, Diana Cavaliere (Matilda De Angelis), the Citadel’s secret agent, has been left alone, behind enemy lines as a manticore.
When he finally sees a way out and the possibility of disappearing forever, the only way to do it is to trust a most unexpected ally, Edo Zan (Lorenzo Cervasio), heir to the Italian Manticore and son of the leader of the Italian organization. Ettore Zanni (Maurizio Lombardi), who is fighting for leadership against other European families.
Citadel: Diana, a TV series created by Alessandro Fabri with Matilda de Angelis, Lorenzo Cervasio, Maurizio Lombardini, Giulia Piaton…
What is this Italian spin-off?
The first series is derived from The Citadel – the second most expensive series in history, after The Rings of Power – The Citadel: Diana is in the direct lineage of the parent series. On the program: espionage, action, betrayal, all in Italian! This new iteration expands the mythology of the Citadel a bit, but takes a closer look at its direct nemesis, the Manticore.
Led by a badass heroine – as required by the franchise’s charter – Citadel: Diana should appeal to fans of spy series and psychological thrillers that also don’t require overly complicated plots. Citadel fans who were fed up with the original’s wacky storylines and stunts will find the spin-off a similar experience, combining suspense, action and emotional drama.
The series features a unique Italian setting and explores the power dynamics within secret organizations. Matilda De Angelis has the tough task of carrying the weight of this derivative alone and succeeding two much better identified actors (Priyanka Chopra and Richard Madden).
Once we get over some concerns about his asymmetrical cut, we can appreciate his sober and raunchy acting and his ability to jump right into action scenes. Citadel: That’s why Diana is the meeting place for Citadel fans and maybe for those who want to switch to Italian!
