Minister Aloysio Corrêa da Veiga, sworn in this Thursday 10th as president of the Superior Labor Court (TST), stated that “the competence of the Labor Court is a topic that needs to be reaffirmed” and received applause from the public. The topic has sparked disagreements between the specialized branch of the judiciary and the Federal Court (STF). The three Supreme Court ministers present also applauded: Edson Fachin, who replaces President Luís Roberto Barroso at the head table, Cármen Lúcia and Cristiano Zanin.
The minister also underlined that “the world of work has changed” and defended the regulation of new methods of providing services. “Today the largest urban transport company does not even have a vehicle. It is rather an algorithm. The provision of services in these new ways, resulting from technological progress, requires regulation, in particular regarding social security, accident insurance and other interconnected issues. What can we do in the face of the regulatory gap if not involve the Judiciary in social pacification?”, he underlined.
