Tonight on TV: The press hates it, but the public loves this dark romance

Not only do readers love a dark novel, so do viewers! Proof of this is the global success of Fifty Shades of Grey, which has exceeded 500 million dollars worldwide.

  • Want another TV tip tonight? We recommend this apocalyptic movie in which Brad Pitt meets bloodthirsty zombies.

And if you’re one of those people who hasn’t missed a second of Christian Gray (Jamie Dornan) and Anastasia Steele’s (Dakota Johnson) tumultuous story, you’ll love this other dark novel by Jenny Gage.

Released in 2019, Next – Chapter 1 tells the story of Tessa, a young woman promised a brilliant career and a happy marriage. But when she arrives at the university, she meets Hardin, a student who is rude, cruel and defiant.

Although everything is set up to make this bad boy her worst enemy, she will eventually fall under his spell and lose control of herself completely. Is this idyll really so reasonable?

The public loves it… and demands more

When it came out in theaters, Then – Chapter 1 Fired by critics, it received an infamous score of 1.9 out of 5. But despite all indications that this film should have ended up at the bottom of the box, fans of dark romance have reversed this trend.

Very quickly, the story of Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin (hero Fiennes Tiffin) found its audience. Overall, the film attracted no fewer than 1.2 million viewers in France and grossed $60 million worldwide (on a $14 million budget).

In the face of such success, four sequels – including one directed by Roger Kumble and others by Castile Landon – were also released: After We Collided, After We Fell, After Ever Happy and After Everything. Proof that you can’t talk about taste and colors…

Tonight on W9 at 9.10pm.
