The National Institute of Statistics (Istat) has revealed alarming data on the country’s children and adolescents regarding economic, educational and cultural access.
Last year, according to Istat, 14% of children under 16 lived in conditions of extreme poverty. Furthermore, in 2023, 70.5% of young people between the ages of 3 and 19 did not go to the library, while almost 40% did not participate in sports activities.
At the same time, in 2023, 16% of children and adolescents between 6 and 19 years old did not benefit from cultural activities outside the home, such as cinemas, theatres, museums, exhibitions, archaeological parks and shows.
Educationally, 10.5% of young people aged 18 to 24 did not attend higher education last year.
Another worrying data shows that 13.5% of children under 16 in Italy (1.1 million) still live in conditions of economic and social deprivation, the highest figure since 2014. .
