Gibbs will be back soon! Three years after deciding to leave NCIS and its iconic character, Mark Harmon didn’t hesitate to make a new offer to the series’ two iconic showrunners.
You might not know it, but his son Sean Harmon came up with the idea to tell a whole new story: Gibbs’ youth. The actor was immediately smitten, as he revealed during an interview with Variety magazine. : “There’s a story to tell? Definitely!”
“I couldn’t be happier”
“Is it different from what people are used to? Of course! I couldn’t be happier to see it GINA LUSITA MONTREAL and David J. North Work on it specifically for what they represent and their history with the series.”
He continues: “They’re the best people I’ve ever worked with on NCIS, and I love what they’ve done with the spinoff and what they’ve worked so hard to push the show forward. My job is to protect that at all costs.”
As for why his son didn’t take over the role of Gibbs after seven episodes, he candidly answers: “He’s an actor, a screenwriter, a producer and a surfer. He does a lot of things. There comes a point when you have to decide what you want to do in life and what’s important to you.”
“He had to make a choice!”
“He had to make a choice, but I know he loves being an executive producer.” Explains the actor before returning to his participation in the series: “Gina and David asked me to turn my voice down!” But that’s not all, as he will also appear in the first episode of the spin-off.
In fact, the showrunner himself revealed that he would be making a cameo during the pilot during a panel last month. Information that Mark Harmon prefers to keep secret: “It should have been a surprise!”
One thing’s for sure, longtime fans shouldn’t be disappointed with NCIS Origins , which airs tonight on CBS.
