“Joker: Delirium for Two” debuts early on streaming after a disastrous box office

The sequel starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga will be released digitally less than a month after its theatrical release

After a debut marked by negative records and bitter reviews, “Joker: Delirium for Two” had anticipated its digital release. The film will arrive on VOD for rent or purchase in the same month as its theatrical release. The date on the platforms was set for October 29 in the United States. It is worth mentioning that the film was released in theaters on October 3.

With an approval rating of just 33% on Rotten Tomatoes and a rare “D” grade (for complete disaster) on CinemaScore, “Joker: The Wild One” posts one of the worst financial performances of the year for Warner Bros.

The advance would be a way to avoid a possible loss of up to $200 million for the studio by making up for weak box office with digital sales. The initiative repeats a strategy used by Sony with “Madame Teia”, which surprised the digital market. In Brazil, the streaming debut date has not yet been confirmed, but these types of initiatives tend to be global.

The film stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, directed by Todd Phillips, to whom Warner gave carte blanche after the success of the first “Joker” (2019) and then canceled the original impact on a boring musical and the revelation which, surprise, the films with “Joker” in the title never had the Joker in the picture.
