Sam Mendes is a director with well-defined concepts. He likes constant movement on the screen and the development of character depth, both in original scripts, as in “American Beauty”, and with classic brands – the case of James Bond, who was directed in “Operation Skyfall” and “007 vs. Ghost.”
It is symptomatic, then, that Mendes is one of the creators of “A Franquia,” a new Max series that very acidly pokes fun while exposing the inner workings of the entertainment industry.
At his side in this initiative is Jon Brown (of the great “Succession”) and the two are keen to show how schizophrenic the experience of working on a production that is part of a gigantic shared universe can be.
Himesh Patel (of “Yesterday”) plays the protagonist Daniel, an assistant director whose main job is to prevent actors and extras from killing each other, while he must deal with the ego of Eric, a director who wants to make “ art” despite not knowing that the main purpose of your film is to sell toys. The person in this role is Daniel Brühl, who has experience in the matter, after all he was Baron Zemo, from Marvel Studios – who, by the way, is the main target of all the jokes.
“A Franquia” is available on Max, in weekly episodes.
