Returning to the Maracanã after 10 years, Botafogo is tied with Criciúma but remains leaders

Botafogo faced Criciúma this Friday (18), and with goals in injury time the match ended in a 1-1 draw at Maracanã. With the draw, Botafogo remains leaders of the Brasileirão, but loses the possibility of having an advantage over vice-leaders Palmeiras. Upon returning to the Temple of Football, Botafogo scored in injury time, but subsequently brought the Catarina club to a draw.

Botafogo reached 12 consecutive matches without losing, however, they only scored one point. The Juventus team remains at the top and fights to win a Brasileirão title that the Rio team hadn’t won since 1995, when they beat Santos in the final.

Alvinegro, led by Artur Jorge, maintained the performance of the last few games and won another in the competition. Against an indigestible opponent in the last matches, Alvinegro dominated the entire match, and amidst a strong collective performance, the strong point of the team was Luiz Henrique who dominated the offensive actions of the match, but stopped in front of the incredible saves from the opposing goalkeeper and the scorer of the winning goal, Tiquinho Soares, who was counting on Gustavo’s failure to push the ball into the net. The highlight is Vitinho, who despite maintaining his average in recent games and playing well, lost a goal without a goalkeeper at the start of the second half. In addition to the Botafogo goalkeeper, who despite performing well upon request, scored Criciúma’s goal immediately after Tiquinho’s

Positive highlighting

Tiquinho Soares: The positive moment could not have been anything else, Tiquinho came on in the second half and after just over 10 minutes on the pitch he was counting on the mistake of the Criciúma goalkeeper to push the ball into the goal and open the scoring for Botafogo.

Negative highlighting

John: In a fair game, the highlight goes to John for allowing a saveable goal just after Alvinegro had opened the scoring in injury time of the match.
