The Cult is finally available on Amazon Prime Video! Inspired by the behind-the-scenes footage of Loft Story, the series follows the entire production behind the show and I bet you’ll wonder if everything you saw actually happened!
But then, did the creators of this six-episode fiction really want to stay true to reality? The answer is yes, as Mate Rumann and Nicolas Slomka tell us: “The goal was to keep everything business-like, we absolutely wanted it to be authentic or almost authentic.”
“We wanted to invent everything related to the personal lives of the characters”
“We’ve occasionally changed dates or things like that, but those aren’t elements that don’t mean much to the audience.” But that doesn’t mean they didn’t add an element of fiction: “We really wanted to invent everything about the characters’ personal lives because that served our purpose better.”
They continue: “Sometimes we would take anecdotes about what happened in other reality shows and put them in our series. But the idea was to understand what goes on behind the scenes. I think it was not the main thing for us. To be documentary, but to tell the truth about what it means to work in this environment.”
Alexia Laroche-Joubert during Loft Story and Anaide Rozam in Isabelle’s Skin, a role inspired by Alexia Laroche-Joubert.
And to achieve this, the creators of the series met several people who experienced this phenomenon from the inside: “We talked to the production people Angela Lorentewith the producer who was in charge of prime-time. We talked to the people who were casting.”
“But we’ve also been contacted by people from the CSA (Council of Supreme Audiovisual, Editor’s Note) who were still active when Loft Story started and who are kind of the bad guys in our series.” What about the most authentic portrayal of Loana? The answer is yes!
Is Loana’s character true to who she really was in the Cult?
“We met him and stayed true to what he told us. And at the same time, we’re not angels with him either. Like when he admits to Isabelle that he tricked her daughter’s father into believing that he. The baby was dead, it really happened.”
“It’s still a very special step to do it, it’s very difficult. But we wanted to put it in the series because that’s what he told us. We really wanted to give him a voice.”

Loana during Loft Story and Marie Colombe as Loana in the cult series
“I think on the show we take a lot of liberties with putting fiction into the characters’ personal lives, but with Loana, we’re almost 100% the least fictionalized.”
It proves that the two creators and screenwriters really put themselves into the documentary to offer a series that is as authentic as possible. Therefore, we invite you not to miss it Worship Available now on Amazon Prime Video.
