After a memorable performance in today’s match (20th), against Juventude, in which Palmeiras won 5-3, Raphael Veiga stood out by scoring three goals. With this performance, the player equaled the mark of 99 goals set by one of the club’s biggest idols, Edmundo.
“I am very happy to have reached this milestone for Edmundo, a boy I admired a lot as a player. Beating these marks and numbers has never been my goal, but I know how much it represents. Scoring 99 goals in a club like Palmeiras is something very, very happy, even more so for the victory,” Veiga said.
The midfielder also focused on the dynamics of the match, underlining that the goals conceded should not only be seen as failures of the defense, but rather as merits of the opponent. “Not all games in which we concede three goals are our mistakes, we have to give them credit.”
Veiga underlined the importance of maintaining humility and concentration, quoting coach Abel Ferreira: “Abel says that every match is important, we will never know which match will win the title. The championship is difficult, we have to keep our feet to earth, with respect.” With his great performance, Raphael Veiga had the opportunity to request the famous song on Fantástico and chose “Thank You Jesus”, by the Australian band Hillsong Worship, in honor of his performance and Palmeiras’ victory.
