Lula did not lose consciousness after falling and will have to take a test tomorrow, the minister said


Planalto released the images of Lula’s meeting with Alexandre Padilha (secretary of Institutional Relations) and councilor Celso Amorim.




The Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, declared on Monday 21st, that President Lula (PT) has not lost any type of orientation and has maintained his level of awareness after the fall suffered at the Palácio da Alvorada, last Saturday. The PT member, according to the assistant, feels no pain and has had no motor changes. He is due for a new imaging test (MRI) this Tuesday the 22nd.

On Monday, the Minister met with President and Special Advisor to the Presidency Celso Amorim. In the first images of the president after the incident, the PT member appeared without a suit, wearing a long-sleeved shirt, sitting at the table with Padilha and Amorim.

Leaving the meeting, Padilha said the president is “very well”, is authorized to hold meetings and must take other internal orders during the day. The minister responsible for political articulation is a doctor. According to the minister, the medical team’s assessment was that of a “normal neurological condition”, without motor alterations.

“Regarding the accident, the president never lost consciousness or orientation. He himself, when he fell, sought contact with the teams at the Palácio do Planalto to provide first aid. This is something very positive,” they said. Padilha told journalists.

Last Saturday, the 19th, the president fell in the bathroom of the Palácio da Alvorada and was treated at the Sírio-Libanês hospital, in Brasilia. The fall and the diagnosis of head trauma to the back of the head were reported by Planalto on Sunday 20th. On medical advice, Lula will avoid longer trips and therefore will not participate in the Brics match in Russia, which will be held this week. According to Planalto sources, the president is expected to undergo new tests in the next few days.

The PT member will participate remotely, via videoconference, and the country will be represented by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira. According to Padilha, Lula maintains contact with the chancellor to monitor the Brics’ activities. In the meeting with Padilha, the president discussed the week’s political agenda, as well as the proposals being considered by the House and Senate.
