In addition to the creators, cast members also commented on the possibility of a 5th season. In an interview with Entertainment Tonightthe actors Chase Stokes (who plays John B) and Rudy Pankow (who plays JJ) were asked if season 4 would be the last.

I think the most important thing was always wanting to end the series on a high. And it’s not about how the plane takes off, but how it lands. I just want to make sure we do the show justice and, when the time comes, that we end it the right way.

I think there are still messages to be told, but at the same time, it depends on the writers, whether they have a good basis for telling these stories, and I think they still do.
