The Simpsons: This picture you will never see again in the series!

It’s a joke that seems to have gone on for far too long. The famous creator of The Simpsons, Matt Groening, revealed that the writers of the series were forced to remove some jokes because of very strict rules.

The cartoon has been on our screens for nearly 35 years as Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie have many adventures at home and throughout Springfield. The series even became known for its oracular qualities. He made some really disturbing predictions, some of which turned out to be correct, such as Donald Trump’s presidency or Lady Gaga’s appearance at the Super Bowl.

Hide those butts…

But despite this extraordinarily long run of success, there’s one joke they’re no longer allowed on screen, even though other shows – like The Griffins – don’t claim to.

Matt Groening spoke at last weekend’s New York Comic Con Metro :”Historically, The Simpsons airs on Sunday nights at 8 p.m. There are things you can do that aren’t at 8 p.m.

He was showing Homer’s butt for a while, then we were told we couldn’t do it anymore, but Family Guy could because it’s on at 8:30 p.m.

Everyone has their own sense of humor

When asked how they adapted their humor over the years on the air and into the ever-evolving context, showrunner Matt Selman explained that they didn’t want to compete with other series.

I feel like other shows can be bold and raw and weird better than us. Like Family Guy, South Park or Rick and Morty – we’re not going to bring them back. To me it’s like, let’s do what we do…let’s just do emotional, observational, humanity-based comedy and satire.

All 35 seasons of The Simpsons are available on Disney+.
