Is Transformers: The Beginning the best movie in the saga? What do viewers think?

Two years after Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the Autobots returned to theaters with a prequel in the form of the animated film Transformers: The Beginning. This great family adventure takes place entirely on the planet Cybertron. Accompanied by the cheeky Elita (Audrey Fleurot in VF) and the fun-loving Bumblebee (Philippe Lachaux), Optimus Prime (Adrien Antoine) must face his former friend Megatron.

Directed by Josh Cooley, who directed Toy Story 4, the film is the first animated Transformers film since the 1986 original, and if the studio chose animation, it’s for good reasons, as producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura highlighted on our mic: “In live action, it’s probably not going to be possible because it would cost $500 or $600 million. I’m saying that because I’ve tried that option. Because we’re going back to the basics of a great story that’s already there, we’ve created it with our estimates, and every time we’re met with sad news that about the value it represented.

“We said to ourselves, we have to try to make this movie into animation. Paramount didn’t want to because we’ve experienced the success of the live-action saga, so why do this prequel in animation?” Hasbro was more enthusiastic because they somehow realized it was more in line with their cause. They always did animation. They know how to do it. So it took a while for both companies to agree that it was a good idea. “ The producer revealed.

So is it a good idea to switch to animation?

With 144 ratings and 33 reviews, Transformers: The Beginning Receives an average viewer rating of 3.8 out of 5 stars. Making it the highest-rated film in the Transformers saga, ahead of Michael Bay’s first live-action film in 2007, which scored a 3.1. Note that the lowest rated Transformers movie is The Last Knight starring Mark Wahlberg in 2017, which averages 2.3 out of 5 stars.

What do the audience think about the feature film?

For the audience, this animated film is both surprisingly and very successful in terms of described animation, and accessible to everyone, regardless of whether you are a fan of the saga or not. The film is intended for both adults and children.

Suzanne writes:I have seen all the Transformers movies, be it the Bay universe or the more recent Rise of the Beasts. I have to admit without any shame that Transformers One is the best of them all. Without delving into the details of the movie and its script, I found a real effort to introduce the world, allowing people who don’t already know it to understand the issues surrounding Transformers. The challenge of a total reboot, in my opinion, is completely successful: the characters are much more attractive and modern, with humor accessible to everyone. I was worried that the film would be too child-oriented, but rest assured, it’s not at all like that. Let’s be honest, this movie is brilliant because of its art direction.”

For Stephen Aliberti, who rates the film 5 stars, it is “Super surprise! This movie is definitely worth watching, the story is great and the animation is very well done. I didn’t really know the world of transformers, but then I became a fan!

Adrienne points out:Very reluctant to watch the movie, I didn’t like Rise of the Beasts and was waiting for a revival of the saga. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised by this latest opus. The animation is the strong point of the film, with absolutely sublime and creative scenery. The story, on the other hand, is very effective and makes the saga fresh. However, I found the music a bit light and the beginning of the film a bit slow. I encourage you to go see this movie whether you are a fan of the saga or not. A great movie for the whole family.”

A huge fan of the franchise, Zevinak enthuses: “This is the cartoon that marked my childhood, and then came the films that brought this world to life with Dantesque special effects. It’s dead on, full of humor, beautifully made, you won’t be bored for a second. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan from the beginning or a newbie, we’ll dig into this story that lets us discover the birth of a hero and a charismatic villain!

Dhawn777 writes: “Here we find ourselves in front of the prequel, which recalls the friendship between Optimus Prime and Megatron, two of the greatest heroes of the saga. It is not necessary to watch other movies. The script is a bit of a cliché, combining action movie codes and an origin story, but it offers an interesting initiation journey with well-written character development. The visual beauty of the film is also one of its strengths. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the animation, which was particularly successful. Sure, some of the scenes are a bit confusing at times because of the bright colors everywhere, but it’s really eye-opening! While Transformers: The Beginning has some aspects of a generic action movie, it still achieves a certain maturity at times, allowing it to be aimed at both young and old.

For the cinephile, on the other hand, it’s a start “More youth-oriented. Transformers is ultimately a pretty lazy proposition. The animation lacks ambition, and despite relatively interesting writing about the genesis of its iconic characters, this Transformers is a lavish TV movie…”

Philippe C. for his part does not find the effects of other films: “Reduced budget, simple story, insufficient technology, no visual and story quality Transformers.”

in short

Transformers: The Beginning Aimed at ages 6 and up, it harkens back to the franchise’s roots. The story is appreciated despite some length, the characters are well developed and attractive (the voice casting is also appreciated) and the animation is considered successful by the majority of Internet users who left a review. A prequel to watch at the cinema with family or friends.
