May 2015 Australian researcher Dr. Christopher Neff Publishes an essay Entitled “The Jaws Effect: How Film Narratives Are Used to Influence Policy Responses to Shark Bites in Western Australia” (The Jaws Effect: How Cinematic Narratives Are Used to Influence Policy Responses to Shark Bites in Western Australia).
The author is actually based on Spielberg’s famous 1975 film, in which the director turns a great white shark into a born predator who likes to attack people.
The opening scene, in which Suzanne Becklin’s character is attacked by a shark, will follow and traumatize several generations of viewers, who may develop aquaphobia or scalophobia for some. Wrong, according to this Australian researcher.
