Los Angeles County claims man whose wife and daughter died in Kobe Bryant’s helicopter crash shouldn’t pursue Vanessa’s lawsuit

More than two years after the death of Kobe Bryant , his wife is in the midst of a legal battle linked to the tragic accident that caused the death of her husband and 13-year-old daughter Gianna. Vanessa Bryant filed a lawsuit in November 2021 for sharing photos of the helicopter crash. As legal proceedings continue, a new development has recently emerged relating to another case related to the fatal accident. Los Angeles County claims that a man whose wife and daughter were among nine killed in the accident cannot “ride Bryant’s ponytails.”

The person in question is Christopher Chester who, like Vanessa Bryant, is suing Los Angeles County for sharing graphic photos of the accident scene. Both claim that the video was filmed and distributed by the first responders who arrived on the spot. The county has since said the photos have been taken but have not been made public. This week, the county filed a motion to prevent the two cases from being consolidated, according to Law and crime . He argues that although their cases “stem from the same tragic accident”, they are different enough that “joining them for trial would confuse the jury and undermine a fair trial.” The motion also says:

Considering Kobe Bryant’s worldwide recognition, Bryant’s case is different. Chester must not be allowed to ride Bryant’s ponytails and benefit from vital evidence that belongs only to Bryant. Chester has shown his willingness to do so in almost all preliminary depositions and again at the preliminary conference on July 8.

To support his case, Los Angeles County also referred to a preliminary conference involving Christopher Chester’s attorney. Apparently, when asked if there was evidence that the photos of the man’s wife and daughter had been released, “Chester’s lawyer ignored” and “confused the evidence in both cases.” According to the motion, such an action illustrates “substantial damage” that could be directed against the county if the two cases were combined.

The motion also refers to this as “a very unusual case”, as “Kobe Bryant was a revered icon”, which is certainly true. In the aftermath of the 2020 accident, many people shared tributes and even bought a lot of Bryant-related memorabilia . ESPN The Last Dance he even praised Bryant in one episode. A year after his death, Jimmy Fallon and other moving shared tributes while his former partner Shaquille O’Neal marked the anniversary consult with Bryant’s parents.

Apparently Vanessa Bryant did everything she could to keep the memory of her husband and daughter alive. Last year Bryant she posted a sweet message for her husband’s birthday and, shortly after his death, he shared a sweet story about the deceased athlete which involved the dress The notebook .

Currently, it appears that Vanessa Bryant, whose legal team was recently reprimanded for presenting too much evidence in a preliminary hearing, he is pursuing his trial. And now, thanks to this latest development, it looks like he will move forward separately from Christopher Chester. In addition to Chester and Bryant, two other families also filed a lawsuit against Los Angeles County and have since moved. Only time will tell how things will go for the two ongoing cases.
