Sylvester Stallone leaves the remake of one of his classics: who will replace him?

In 1993, Sylvester Stallone played one of his most muscular roles in Rennie Harlin’s Cliffhanger. Over the years, the film has gone from a simple guilty pleasure to a throwback nineties mini-classic.

Thirty years later, a remake was announced with Stallone returning to the role. The bad news: He just left the project. Do not imagine an actor to replace him, the character will be completely removed from the script.

The cast will include Pierce Brosnan, Lily James (Pam and Tom), Nell Tiger Free (The Servant) and Franz Rogowski (The Hidden Life). The cast also includes two Frenchmen: Asad Bouabi from Ten Percent and Bruno Guerre from Emily in Paris.

In this new version, Pierce Brosnan plays Ray Cooper, an experienced mountaineer who runs a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with his daughter Sydney. While spending a weekend with a billionaire’s son, they are targeted by a gang of kidnappers.

Ray’s older daughter, Naomi, still haunted by an old climbing accident, witnesses the attack and runs away. To save his family, he must face his fears and fight for survival.

The film will be directed by Jaume Collet-Serrat, director of Survival Instinct, Jungle Cruise and Black Adam. Note that Pierce Brosnan and Lily James reunited for the second time six years after Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.

Cliffhanger, in theaters in 2025.
