Netflix: can we say that interactive titles have failed?

Black Mirror: Bandersnatch turns 6 in December. Netflix’s first interactive film was a smash hit, seeming to point to a new direction in entertainment.

It was almost like playing a realistic video game. Or even a turbo version of the old one You decidefrom TVGlobo. I admit I watched it a couple of times at the time, trying to find the 5 different endings to the story.

Since then, the streaming service has released other titles in this format, but none of them have made much noise. After Bandersnatchin 2019, the company even announced that it would invest resources in this venture. But the return must not have been good, given that the current catalog only has 24 interactive titles.

And the vast majority of them are about to be removed from Netflix’s archives. The platform confirmed the information to the foreign site The limit.

Which titles will continue?

1) Black Mirror: Bandersnatch
2) Indestructible Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy x Reverend
3) You radical
4) You radical with Ranveer Singh and Bear Grylls

“The technology has served its purpose, but is now limiting as we focus on technology efforts in other areas”he said.

Why did Netflix give up interactive movies?

Netflix has not categorically said that it has stopped producing interactive content. But all the actions taken in recent months demonstrate this.

When spokeswoman Chrissy Kelleher talks about “tech efforts in other areas,” she’s probably thinking about the expenses the company is making for games.

The company announced in 2021 that it will begin to diversify its business, focusing on the gaming sector. You may have already seen some of them in the platform’s catalog, although you may not have played any of them.

Despite reaching a small portion of subscribers, games saw growth last year: Demand for them tripled within Netflix.

The partnership with strong brands, such as GTA, helped a lot in this result. As well as products inspired by the house’s successes, such as Stranger things.

According to sources linked to the company, Netflix currently has more than 80 games in development. One of them was announced in August and is expected to be released alongside the new Korean season Round 6.

Netflix, therefore, would have decided to concentrate its efforts on this type of game – and no longer on that imaginative copy You decide.
