Not so long ago, superhero movies were not as popular as they are today. In the early 2000s, comic book adaptations began to gain success. Thus, the era of superheroes was opened at this time with the release of the X-Men movie.
Another Marvel saga allowed superheroes to become popular. It is a Spider-Man trilogy directed by Sam Raimi, starring Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane. These three films also introduced iconic comic book villains: The Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina), Venom (Topher Grace)…
One of the best superhero movies of all time
This trilogy is designed as an origin story for Peter Parker. The first film sees the latter take on his arachnid power and discover the responsibility it brings. The second part leads to introspection of his role as a superhero, and the third to an identity crisis as new forces destroy his vigilante personality.
The first Spider-Man is best rated by AlloCiné internet users (4 out of 5). But generally speaking, the second film is considered the most successful of the three and is generally ranked among the greatest superhero films of all time. Sam Raimi seems to have found the perfect balance between the big spectacle aspect and the story close to his characters.
Despite its superhero dimension, the characterization of this trilogy must remain as realistic as possible. In all three films, Peter Parker faces financial difficulties. His dual identity as a superhero also means he must remain estranged from those close to him, especially Mary Jane.
Not a fourth Spider-Man, but a crossover movie!
The third opus is unanimously considered the worst in the saga. Guilty of feeling too many and too many bad boys (three in total). Originally, Sam Raimi did not want Venom to appear in this part, but the decision was imposed on him by the producers.
The failure of the film at the box office buried the fourth film project. This new installment, which is still in pre-production, could feature Vulture or Lizard as the main villain.
A few years after the release of Spider-Man 3, the reboot allowed Andrew Garfield to become Spider-Man for two films. Then the role was given to Tom Holland, the hero of his own trilogy. But the three interpretations of Peter Parker had the opportunity to cross paths in the same adventure during the movie Spider-Man’s No Way Home.
Three Spider-Men for the price of one in No Way Home!
However, these three Spider-Men do not appear in the official MCU timeline and are not owned by Disney, but by Sony Pictures. For this reason, the trilogy is not available on Disney+, but instead joins rival streaming service Max’s catalog starting this Wednesday, November 6.
