Less famous than Spider-Man, less cool than Iron Man… this superhero remains the most indomitable

As of October 30, Venom: The Last Dance continues to lead the top 10 of the current box office hits. A chance for fans of the saga to (re)discover the first part, which was released in 2018.

Seven years ago, a new Marvel appeared on the big screen: Ruben Fleischer’s Venom (to whom we especially owe Zombieland or the Uncharted saga). We find Eddie Brock, a journalist seeking revenge at all costs on Peter Parker, the Spider-Man who fired him from the Daily Bugle.

Possessed of an organism that acts autonomously, Eddie Brock becomes the deadly patron of the poison. To embody this indomitable superhero on the screen, the director chose an actor well known to the general public: Tom Hardy. Next to him is Michelle Williams as Ann Weing, a lawyer and Brock’s ex-fiancĂ©e.

Spider-Man’s super enemy

To bring this irrepressible superhero to life, the production first considered the game Tom Hardy In performance photography, a technique that involves photographing a person in order to recreate them in computer-generated images.

But considering that Venom is a giant monster, he was no match for a human at all. So the director decided to create it in VFX.

And the least we can say is that after the iconic Deadpool, this other Marvel anti-hero has the charm of the audience: Tom Hardy Perfectly plays his role as Spider-Man enemy, and Venom is extremely “bad”!

Upon release in theaters, poison It was a huge success, grossing $856 million worldwide. It is the sixth biggest blockbuster of 2018, behind Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

However, the reviews are not representative of this enthusiasm. Internet users in particular gave it a rating of 3.1 out of 5, while the national press was harsher (a very poor average of 1.8 out of 5!

To date, this is the lowest-rated saga of Marvel, but we have to believe that this did not slow down the producers at all, who decided to create two more sequels (which are less good than the first part).
