Cazuza’s mother recalls conversation with her son about his sexuality: ‘I like boys and girls’

Lucinha Araújo said that, after her son’s response, she never spoke about the topic with him again

Lucinha Araújo, mother of singer Cazuza, recalled an extraordinary conversation she had with her son about his sexuality. According to Lucinha, Cazuza got straight to the point and his words had a profound impact on her.

“He said: ‘Mom, I like boys and girls. Now, don’t interfere in my life, it’s my life,'” she said in an interview with Conversa com Bial, on GNT, which will be broadcast on Tuesday 12th.

After that conversation, Lucinha never raised the topic with her son again. “From that day on I never asked him anything and if I had I would have been dumped. I accepted because I wanted him to be happy. As long as he was happy, I was happy with him,” he added.

Cazuza

The singer and poet Cazuza, aka Agenor de Miranda Araújo Neto, was one of the greatest icons of Brazilian rock. He began his career in the 1980s, as the singer of the band Barão Vermelho. In 1985, Cazuza embarked on a solo career and released hits such as Exagerado, O Tempo Não Para and Ideologia.

In addition to his artistic contribution, Cazuza was one of the first Brazilian celebrities to speak openly about living with AIDS. He died in 1990, at the age of 32, from complications of the disease.
