McDonald’s donates R$1.5 million to help families affected by floods in Rio Grande do Sul

McDia Feliz’s campaign raised R$26.2 million in 2024; the value goes to cancer treatment projects and education

McDonald’s will donate part of the amount raised from the McDia Feliz campaign to help families affected by floods in Rio Grande do Sul. The Open Fund, managed by the Ronald McDonald Institute, will receive R$1.5 million. This is the first time that the social campaign will not be limited to impactful actions in education and health initiatives for children and young people in the country.

The Open Fund was created by Arcos Dourados, operator of the fast food chain in Latin America, in May this year with the aim of helping raise funds for Rio Grande do Sul. At the time, 2.39 million people were affected in some way by the climate tragedy, equal to 22.04% of the state’s population.

In addition to the current donation, the fund had already received R$1 million at the time of its launch. The priorities of the initiative are:

– Food security: basic food support for families.

·Drinking water: ensure access to drinking water in renovated homes or new homes.

·Health: patient access and navigation in SUS, control of new diseases and support for the restoration of physical and mental health.

·Saving citizenship: access to rights, documents and emancipation of families.

In total, the McDia Feliz campaign raised R$26.2 million in this year’s edition. Since 2018, part of the sum raised has been donated to the projects of the Ayrton Senna Institute. Another portion of the proceeds goes to the Ronald McDonald Institute, which is celebrating 25 years of operation in Brazil.
