PF examines the author’s cell phone; The Lula government and the Bolsonarists are trying to impose narratives

The Federal Police had access to the cell phone data of Francisco Wanderley Luiz, perpetrator of the attack at the Federal Supreme Court (STF), to try to identify who his interlocutors were and whether they knew about the attack. Although the expertise was ongoing and the investigation was in its initial phase, representatives of the Lula government and those closest to former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) yesterday expressed theses appropriate to their narrative on the episode.

One of the objectives of the PF’s assessment is to verify whether Francisco Wanderley has maintained political relations, both in Brasilia and in Santa Catarina, his home state. Francisco was a member of the PL and also ran for city councilor in the 2020 elections, but was not elected. Experts analyze search histories and messages to find evidence. The investigation takes place in secret.

Francisco Wanderley’s cell phone survey extracted information from the device using cutting-edge software. The cell phone was locked with a password. Violation of banking, fiscal and electronic secrecy will be requested from the STF. Other seized assets, including a trailer loaded with explosives, are currently being inspected by federal agents.

The prime minister of the Secretariat of Communication of the Presidency (Secom), Paulo Pimenta, however stated that the perpetrator of the attacks “probably had a rearguard”. According to Pimenta, he acted premeditatedly. According to the minister, the investigations are progressing quickly and the most important thing is to know whether Francisco Wanderley – who killed himself with an explosive after the detonations in Praça dos Três Poderes – had “connections”.

The PL, in a note released by its secretary for Institutional Relations, federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP), repudiated what it classified as an attempt to associate the attack near the STF with former president Jair Bolsonaro and the right . The party considers the association an “attempt at manipulation” and an attack on the amnesty project for the accused and convicted of January 8.

“This attempted manipulation reveals not only an unacceptable distortion of the facts, but also the malicious aim of hindering the progress of the amnesty bill, an essential step towards national pacification and the restoration of institutional normality”, reads the statement which is about the episode. as a suicide and not an “attack on established power”.

Cabinet

The president of the Supreme Court, Luís Roberto Barroso, referred the investigation into the attack to the office of minister Alexandre de Moraes. The PF is investigating the political motivation and therefore asked that the case be referred to the minister responsible for reporting on the coup investigation, the digital militias investigation and the investigation into attacks on members of the Court.

The day before yesterday, STF ministers linked Francisco Wanderley’s action to the anti-democratic acts of January 8, 2023 and the “hate office” installed in the Palácio do Planalto during the Bolsonaro government.

The connection was denied by pastor Silas Malafaia – Bolsonaro’s ally – in a video published the day before yesterday. In the recording, Malafaia calls the perpetrator “a man with mental and emotional problems who detonated bombs” and says that Moraes tries to create a “smoke screen” over his “illegal” legal acts. “I will not let the robed dictator Alexandre de Moraes pass with a narrative to try to take advantage, to throw a smokescreen over his illegal and unjust acts, on the issue of the man with mental and emotional problems who detonated the bombs in Brasilia “, he said.

Malafaia also stated that he repudiates “any revolt, persecution or riot, whether from the right or the left”. For him, Moraes has adopted the “narrative” that the attack carried out by the man is “the result of hate speech” and that an amnesty for those arrested on January 8 “will generate more attacks”.

‘Yeast’

The issue of amnesty was addressed by representatives of the first level of the Lula government. Participating in a parallel event to the G20 in Rio, the Secom minister spoke out against the pardon in the January 8 case. “Amnesty, right now, encourages impunity. And impunity is the ferment of terror that we have seen this week. I am against any debate on amnesty for those involved in January 8,” he said. “Anyone who attacks democracy will not have any kind of impunity in this country.”

Pimenta also stated that the investigations into the anti-democratic acts “are moving towards a conclusion” and said that perhaps the investigations will highlight links to financiers.

On the same occasion, the Minister of Institutional Relations, Alexandre Padilha, associated the attack with the acts of January last year. He said the episode has a political impact. “There is no way to look at this (attack) forgetting January 8, forgetting that there were people monitoring the path of President Lula and the ministers,” Padilha said. “The attack has a political impact, yes. Now it is more difficult to ignore everything that happened on January 8,” the minister said.
