Elizabeth Olsen explained how playing Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe helped her to also act in independent productions.
In an interview with the magazine Vulture during the Vulture Festival (via Variety), the actress said, “I never really had the ‘one for them, one for me’ mentality.”
“Marvel has been a constant that I can always return to, and it has created—what’s the word?—a sense of security in my life that has given me the freedom to choose other work. So I’ve never felt like, ‘I’m going to do this for then do that,'” he said.
Olsen reinforced that returning to the Marvel role “always felt like a choice” and added: “Every time, it’s character-driven. It’s always like, ‘We have this idea, and that’s why we want you to come back.’ It’s not like, ‘Just put her in anything.'”
The actress also argued that superhero films may be necessary for independent cinema to survive, stating that they can “pay the rent” for theaters to show smaller budget productions.
