Will we one day see a live-action remake of Hercules? For several years now, the Disney animated film, which was released in 1997, has been in the studio’s sights for an adaptation project, as well as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid or soon Snow White.
Recently, there have been rumors that the direction of this remake will be very different.
The live-action version should focus not on the main character, but on the villain, Hades, the god of the underworld. Information that should be taken with a grain of salt is forthcoming Daniel RichtmanScoop Hunter.
Disney wants to repeat the pattern of Maleficent, a retelling of Sleeping Beauty that saw villain Angelina Jolie on screen.
Taron Egerton and Ariana Grande in the casting?
In terms of casting, the names of Taron Egerton (Kingsman, Rocketman) and Ariana Grande (Wicked) were previously mentioned as the two main characters. Other rumors claim Dua Lipa as Megara.
Director Guy Ritchie – already at the helm of Aladdin – has been attached to the project for a long time. The Russo brothers, the directors of Avengers: Endgame, are still credited as producers.
In the original film, Hades, known for his blue flame like hairstyle, is voiced by James Woods in the English version. The role that suited the actor’s skin used to be playing bad guys in movies. As of now, no actor has been named to play the original artist.
Meanwhile, Disney is preparing to release two live-action remakes: Snow White with Rachel Zegler, due March 19, and Lilo & Stitch, May 21.
