It is the fact that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged again proof that we live in a 20-year cycle? maybe not since then they got married this time but brings a great deja-vu, and fans of the couple are still pretty excited . What’s even more nostalgic is the first newly redone interview with JLo and Affleck from nearly two decades ago, in which they discuss their OG wedding plans.
First, Jennifer Lopez was “JLo”, then she became half of the affectionately referred to as “Beniffer” when she first dated Ben Affleck. In Lopez and Affleck’s first exclusive interview with Pat O’Brien (via news from nbc ), the pop star turned actress was asked what her name would be when she married Affleck. Here’s how that conversation went:
- Lopez: What do you think my name will be? I will change it professionally, you mean? No. I think I’ll stay with Jennifer Lopez. But of course my name will be Jennifer Affleck. “
- O’Brien: So what will your stationery say?
- Lopez: Jennifer Affleck.
- O’Brien: HA IS J-Aff.
- Lopez: It doesn’t sound exactly the same. but you have to make sacrifices. [laughter]
- O’Brien: Actually, Jennifer Affleck is a good name.
- Lopez: Not bad. Not bad. I’ll take it.
It appears that Jennifer Lopez was planning to take on Ben Affleck’s last name in 2003, and it’s entirely possible that she would have earned another nickname “JA” if the wedding had taken place. Now that the two have traveled to Las Vegas and married nearly 20 years later, JLo has legally changed his last name to Affleck based on the presentation of the marriage certificate. He also announced the wedding with a name sign on his he newsletter (via page 6 ).
Changing her surname makes sense since Jennifer Lopez said so her relationship with Ben Affleck is more “satisfying” than her Hollywood career . That said, I still think she would keep Lopez as a professional name, even now that she has proven herself to be a mainstay in Hollywood.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck were the “it” couple in the early 2000s, and it seemed like all the media covered their location. Indeed, López was open about how the the tabloids and the press were relentless during his first visit to a trade union. In the same interview, López explained that the wedding the couple were planning would not try to hide from the press. Here’s what she said exactly:
No. In order not to make it the biggest secret in the world, do you know what I mean? If people want to be outside and want to take pictures of us, then that’s fine. You know, we’re not going to be, you know, with 24 million security guards there. We just want to be like: have a good marriage. We want it to be a great day for what it is. And if there are cameras outside, that’s fine, you know. We will not be obsessed with them.
I don’t think there has ever been kinder person to be harassed day and night by the paparazzi, an experience that JLo has had enough to put into a movie . Jennifer Lopez is very pretty, although she seems to be more than worried that her wedding day will end up being a chaotic show with everyone trying to get a piece of the couple on their big day.
Although Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck didn’t have much of a fling when they finally got married last weekend, luckily they were able to keep the ceremony more or less discreet. The marriage was certainly a very long one and we’ll just have to see if what the original interview suggested is true: that JLo will eventually be called JA.
