Duramir Monteiro Silva was stabbed to death and his body set on fire
The Court of Espírito Santo sentenced the son and daughter-in-law of the cyclist and app driver Duramir Monteiro Silva, aged 56, who died in Castelo (ES). João Victor Brito Silva and Beatriz Gasoni de Azevedo allegedly drugged, stabbed and set fire to the victim’s body, in June 2022. Both received more than 20 years in prison.

As announced by the Civil Police at the time of the crime, Duramir disappeared on June 28 of that year, causing great commotion in the city where he lived, Cachoeiro de Itapemirim. The son was taken to the city’s Homicide and Personal Protection (DHPP) police station, where he ended up confessing to the crime during testimony.
“During the hearing, he confessed to having committed the murder against Duramir and said that he had hidden his father’s body in the district of Estrela do Norte, in the city of Castelo, territory of the victim’s daughter-in-law. After confessing, the suspect and the team went to the scene, where a pit was identified where the body was thrown and burned,” police chief Felipe Vivas said at the time.
Beatriz also confessed to the crime. According to the Police, after killing the cyclist, the couple wrapped the victim’s body in a sheet and a carpet, placed it in the trunk of the car, purchased petrol with his card and headed towards a property rural.

“Once there, they placed the body in a dry grave, threw 3 liters of fuel on the spot and set it on fire twice. Early in the morning they returned to the village and went to the bakery to get coffee. It’s a frightening coldness,” the delegate reinforced.
According to Rede Globo affiliate TV Gazeta, police concluded that they both killed the cyclist to keep his house and money. Both were indicted and the case was sent to Jury Court. On Thursday evening, the 21st, the two were convicted after more than 9 hours of trial.
João Victor Brito Silva was sentenced to 22 years in prison in a closed regime and six months in a semi-open regime for triple murder, concealment of a corpse, coercion during the trial, procedural fraud and illegal possession of a firearm for permitted use. . Beatriz Gasoni de Azevedo was sentenced to 20 years and six months in closed prison, as well as six months in open prison, for all crimes, excluding possession of weapons.
The daughter-in-law’s defense told the broadcaster that they will analyze the sentence to find out whether or not to appeal. The son’s defense said he will not appeal, especially since he admitted committing the crime in the jury court.
