Thor 4: Which character connects this movie to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Eternals?

Warning – The following article contains some spoilers for the plot of “Thor – Love and Thunder”. Please continue if you haven’t seen a Taika Waititi movie yet.

Is Thor – Love and Thunder really as standalone as we think? At first glance, Taika Waititi’s film seems self-sufficient and tends to confirm Marvel’s refusal to open the doors to its multiverse wide for now. However, the character ties him to at least two MCU opus and could allow him to expand his horizons.

Eternity, because it is, moreover, not so much a character as a cosmic being. The one that Gore (Christian Bale) is looking for to fulfill his wish, which is to kill all the gods. Eventually, the story’s big villain returns to his vengeful desires to revive his daughter (India Rose Hemsworth), whose death we saw in the prologue. Even if the power of the Necroblade he used to commit his murders didn’t take his life.

Viewers won’t see much of Eternity’s power, and many don’t realize the extent of his power, even though he represents the entire Marvel Universe (also referred to as the 616) in the comics. Because this stellar silhouette created in 1965’s The Adventures of Doctor Strange is made up of every living thing, place, space, and moment.

The Only Living Tribunal, another space entity represented by statues of its members (including the Guardian, shown in the What If… series, with a star-like appearance reminiscent of Eternity) in Thor, Jane’s final battle hall. And Gore should surpass him.

For the reader, this brief appearance of eternity no doubt raises questions. In particular, on the version seen on screen: is this a creature specific to the universe of Thor and the Avengers? Another world, because everyone has their own? Even a combination of all the iterations of him that exist in the comics? The mystery is complete for now. And it’s not even sure that Kevin Feige and the writers of Love and Thunder have decided when it’s time to show it here.

What is certain is that Eternity expands the collection of cosmic characters seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Like Dormammu, the villain from Doctor Strange. Blackagar Boltagan, aka Black Arrow (Anson Mount), moved on to the sequel. Or the celestials who play the main role in the Eternals, which we meet at the edge of the plan of love and thunder, which the most observant noticed from one of the trailers.

It should also be noted that the Infinity Gauntlet used by Thanos is of cosmic origin. As well as the living planet Ego, Star-Lord’s father in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The film that first mentioned Eternity when Chris Pratt, the hero, was about to move into his parent’s camp. saw his eyes full of stars. And that’s when he spoke “Eternity”. In 2017, the year of James Gunn’s feature film, few fans picked up on this reference, especially since it could also refer to infinite time.

With the release of Thor – Love and Thunder, this sequence takes on a whole new meaning. And who knows if this isn’t a teaser for Guardians of the Galaxy 3, which is expected to hit our theaters on May 3rd? Eternity may also serve as one of his future big bads in the MCU. Like the Beyonder, another space creature known for its crossover role Secret Wars. Or Galactus, the mythical adversary of Fantastic 4 whose arrival is supposedly inevitable. The case will follow.
