Al Earth, Renan BarcelosRTM’s IT security manager, gives advice on how to protect yourself in this area and how to avoid falling for false promotions.
Give preference to larger companies
“When it comes Black Friday, look for well-known websites, sites where you have already made purchases or from more relevant companies on the market,” explains Renan. He explains that smaller brands can be easier targets for scammers, as they don’t have as many security mechanisms attached to their pages virtual.
Pay attention to the details of the website
Appearances matter when choosing a website to shop online. The specialist in digital security recommends consumers to pay attention if the texts are written correctly and if the images illustrating the products are fully loaded.
“There are frauds by cybercriminals where they create other portals with a similar name. But they can’t even place them identically to an official portal. So you can identify images that don’t load, images with the wrong words and all the I’m staying,” he says.
Another important point, second Renan Barcelos, check if the website has the file padlock at the topnext to the website address. “This shows that a digital certificate is applied on the site. It is true that it is not a 100% guarantee, that that site only has the padlock, which is 100% intact, but in short, it is a whole combination of factors”, he adds .
Search for the company’s CNPJ
A good idea is to always see what people are saying about that brand before purchasing something from it. But specialist Renan Barcelos points out that shops can have similar names and, therefore, is ideal look for the company’s CNPJ so as not to be deceived.
He says the Reclame Aqui website is a reliable source, as are the state-run Procons portals.
“Node Procon You will do a search in your region and on their site there are several guidelines and also directions for asking questions and complaints,” he explains.
Track product prices
To avoid falling into “black fraud”, the most important advice is also one of the simplest: monitor product prices that interests you before the date arrives. Since promotions sometimes start in early November in Brazil, it is legitimate for tracking to be done as early as October.
But, for those who weren’t expecting it, Renan Barcelos recommends using websites that show this price history. “I myself use Zoom, which is a portal and has an application where you can check the price history, it is a very reliable site, I recommend it,” he says.
Choose the virtual card
When you shop online, you can generate a virtual card and, according to digital security expert Renan Barcelos, this is the safest option.
“There are some that work via purchase, then he makes a purchase and the card is no longer valid. This is a security mechanism, in case the consumer registers his credit card on a website that can be hacked by Internet, and these cyber criminals, in possession of their card number, of the information on the card, will not be able to make new purchases, because that virtual card has expired”, he explains.
