Opening in theaters on Wednesday, November 27, Moana 2 topped the French box office on its first day with 456,273 in theaters. This is the best start to 2024 (minus the preview). Success has been announced to continue the adventures of the children’s favorite Disney character.
In the feature film, Moana embarks on a journey that takes her to the dangerous waters off the coast of the Pacific Islands. With the help of Maui, an all-new crew, and her loyal pets Pua and Heihei, Moana will try to find Motufetu Island, a gathering place for explorers centuries ago. Until the day when Nalo – the god of storms, who rejected all ideas of human brotherhood – forced the island to sink to the bottom of the ocean, cursed the place forever and all the roads leading to it disappeared.
But what do early viewers think of Disney’s new movie? Are the reviews as good as the first installment?
At the time of writing, Moana 2 has an average viewer rating of 3.6 out of 5 based on 191 ratings and 44 reviews. The 2016 film has a low rating of 4.2 out of 5 stars by AlloCiné viewers. By comparison, Vice-Versa 2, which came out last June and became the highest-grossing animated film of all time, is rated 4 out of 5 stars by AlloCiné viewers.
successful sequel
Viewers appreciate the visual quality and animation, as well as the emotions that arise from this family adventure. Almost 43% of viewers consider the film a successful, disturbing and visually brilliant sequel.
So for a futurist it is “It’s a very good movie, on the same level as the first one. The scenes are very beautiful and poetic, the plot is charming and engaging, the new characters are very engaging, and the animals/supporting characters are very well written. The songs are beautiful, uplifting and uplifting.”
Tiphaine Guietry writes: “I just came out of the session and I’m still in tears. The Disney magic is working again to our great delight!! Visually it’s brilliant and this second part is a worthy continuation of the first opus. I found the songs very beautiful and the story very beautiful. The kids were delighted as I was.
for the tomamartins, “This movie is just incredible, great scenery. It fits the story of the first one. Be careful, stay until the end after the credits, you’re in for a little surprise.”

Océane B and her daughter are delighted : “Beautiful and moving from beginning to end. My 5 year old daughter loved it and so did I. Only negative criticism: It doesn’t last long. Could use more details, but it’s still a movie for kids. , let’s not forget.”
Rudy M rates the movie with 4 stars:A very good sequel that takes the classics of the first opus and still manages to reinvent itself! Small downside: the character and setting detection magic no longer works, so very good, not great.”
Finally for JulietteM it’s “Sequel to the first movie I fell in love with. Wayana continues her quest with new adventures. How nice to find it again, more mature and without the questions of the first film. There is no repetition here, even if the scenario is slightly expected. The songs are worse than the first, except for the credits. A very good Disney treat!”

A story that lacks depth
The script is one of the weak points of the feature film. 23% of comments criticized the script for lacking depth and innovation. Like Alexis B who writes:Well, we obviously feel like this shouldn’t have been made into a movie in the first place. This sequel definitely falls short of the first one, which was truly phenomenal for me.
The change of composers and directors is very noticeable and the story fell into a too childish register, unlike the first one, which was less “childish”.
Apart from the absolutely brilliant visual aspects, neither the story is surprising nor the “villain” of the story. We were left wanting a lot because the story seemed promising, but eventually it falls apart. I’m really mixed on this sequel. A mini-series, as originally envisioned, would have been much more appropriate.“

By SFC Internet User Seen, Vaiana 2 is “A fun, colorful, fun adventure, but above all no rest. The film travels at 200 miles per hour. Everything comes together, we don’t have time to get bored. But in the end, the scenario is too simplistic and even a bit empty. The music is great, it stays in your head. I preferred the Vice Versa 2.”
Reno Fontaine adds:It’s a good movie despite the severe lack of problems and predictable plot. Visually brilliant, with great attention to detail and very catchy music that gives the story a second wind. “
Finally, Shawn777 from Club AlloCiné writes:I can say right away, I don’t have a lasting memory of “Wayana”, I consider it a bit too classic. If I was interested in discovering this sequel, I wasn’t particularly sure, without any preconceived notions. But unfortunately, we are faced with a simple continuation, which, in the end, has very little interest.

If the hero had to return the stone to save nature in the first film (mostly), here he has to pull the island out of the water to defeat the curse (mostly anyway). Yes, it’s great, the animation is still great, the dialogues are good, as is the humor (albeit a bit childish at times, but Disney always aims more for children than Pixar, which tries to include a wider audience), but above. All songs are extremely successful.
But this is a diagram seen and discussed; We feel that Disney is clearly not daring to take any more risks by serving the same soup over and over again to bring even more viewers back to the theaters. Vaiana 2 is therefore a sequel that is only of financial interest to the firm.
at the end
At the end, the first audience is excited to find Vayana and her colorful world. The majority of Internet users who have written a review find that this is a successful sequel, visually, in action and in emotion, and that this new adventure is attractive.
On the other hand, for others, the script lacks depth and is a “simple sequel” without any real innovation. Some decry the predictable and overly simplistic story that fails to captivate as the first film did. Despite these criticisms, the Disney magic still works.
Moana 2 A must see in the cinema, don’t hesitate to leave a review when you see it!
