The governor of the Brazilian state reports a “health problem”, but participates in the Libertadores final

The sovereign’s attitude sparked outrage on social media.

Fábio Mitidieri, current governor of the state of Sergipe, was the subject of numerous criticisms after being “trapped” in the stands of the Monumental de Nuñez stadium, in Buenos Aires, during the big decider of the CONMEBOL Libertadores Cup on Saturday 30th.

Last Tuesday, 26th, Mitidieri announced his departure from office, citing health reasons, through his X account.

“I have taken a few days off to ensure that my health is 100% after pneumonia. The government continues under the leadership of our MP Zezinho Sobral. I thank you for your understanding and I reaffirm my commitment to always be ready to serve our state and the community people of Sergipe.”

As expected, this had a negative impact and, as a result, the governor issued a new post. In it the governor assured that he was officially absent, as required by law, and specified that the trip with his family had been paid for with his own resources.

“I regret the political use of the information, purposely distorting the fact that I was resting after the period of being ill”

An avowed Fogão fan, Mitidieri had the privilege of seeing the Alvinegro de General Severiano club win the Libertadores title in an unprecedented way by beating Atlético-MG 3-1. Immediately after the final whistle, the president published a photo commemorative with the following caption “The long-awaited continental title”.

Outraged, Internet users posted printouts confirming that the governor supported Glorioso. In addition to showing dissatisfaction, they also joked: “Have you issued the certificate?”

Fábio Mitidieri’s advisor sent a note to the g1 portal, informing that the governor has been on holiday since the 26th, for personal reasons, together with his family, in Argentina, where the final took place. It was also confirmed that the removal was communicated to the Sergipe Legislative Assembly.

“The State certifies that the trip was paid for with its own resources, without any use of public funds”, reads the note, reiterating that “the decision reflects the responsibility to separate official commitments from personal activities”.

The memo also said the governor complied with medical recommendations to withdraw from all activities one week after undergoing treatment for pneumonia.

The government official was diagnosed with the disease on November 15, the same day he was admitted to hospital. After two days in the hospital, he was released to perform his administrative program remotely.
