Singer-songwriter Kate Nash has revealed she is using selling photos of her body on OnlyFans to subsidize her tours, in what she describes as a financially challenging time for artists. With the slogan “Butts for tour bus”, Nash stated that his earnings on the platform will allow him to continue performing, as “touring generates losses, not profits”.

In an interview with BBC News, Nash explained that without cutting salaries, laying off staff or compromising the quality of his shows, he is unable to profit from his performances. “This leaves me in the position where touring is more of a passion project than a sustainable business,” he said.

The singer pointed to rising ticket and festival prices, while artist fees have been stagnant for years. For Nash, this reflects a lack of appreciation for the art and creates a hostile environment for working-class musicians.

Additionally, Nash compared the experience of musical artists to that of adult content creators on OnlyFans, saying that musicians could learn from the control and autonomy of this market. “Art has value, but we treat it as something disposable. Maybe we can learn from sex workers on how to empower ourselves as artists.”

Kate Nash released her fifth studio album in June and is currently touring the UK and Europe. He also took to social media to criticize the streaming payment model, saying he “doesn’t need 0.003 cents per play.”

The practice of seeking new sources of income has already been adopted by other artists. Lily Allen also recently declared that she earns more from photos on OnlyFans than from Spotify royalties.
