Resident Evil on Netflix: What are the characters’ connections to video games?

Warning, spoilers! The following article reveals important information about the Resident Evil series.

The first season of Resident Evil on Netflix does not leave viewers indifferent. While some appreciate this new video game adaptation, many criticize it for taking too many liberties. One of the most talked about characters is undoubtedly that of Albert Wesker (Lance Reddick). In the series, the antagonist becomes a simple father, an employee of the Umbrella Corporation. A huge disappointment for fans of the franchise.

However, in episode 7, the plot reveals that the main character is one of the many clones of the real Albert Wesker, a man in black leather who is a bit closer to the video game version. One of these clones even died in a volcano to stay true to the character’s fate in the Resident Evil 5 game.

Actor Lance Reddick, who had no previous knowledge of video games, agreed to participate in the series thanks to this coup. “When I realized I was playing multiple versions of Wesker, I thought, “Wow, I can’t go wrong if I do.– he tells the site bloody disgusting. It was one of my favorite moments of the season, playing Bertie .”

As for Evelyn Marcus, the president of Umbrella Corporation, she is the daughter of Dr. James Marcus, the co-founder of Umbrella, the main character of the game Resident Evil 0. To prepare for the role, actress Paola Núñez explains:I knew the story of Evelyn’s father, which is part of the games. I was given all the information to know what kind of father he was to her. That’s how I thought about the father who probably wasn’t there and loved him.”

Series creator Andrew Dabb says he wants to introduce more video game elements in future seasons. As of now, Netflix has yet to announce a second season.
