Tonight on TV: Before La Cage and Valide, Frank Gastambide puts his shoulders to the cartels…for laughs!

When it comes to movies and series about cartels in Colombia, we’ve got you covered! Among the most famous works are Narcos, Escobar and The Infiltrator. But did you know that there are also lighter comedies on the subject?

Want another TV tip tonight? We recommend this spy movie with Henry Cavill in a role other than Superman!

Released exclusively on the Premier Video streaming platform in June 2023, Medellín is the latest feature film from Franck Gastambide. There we meet the young YouTuber “Pablito” (Brahim Buhleli) who is fascinated by Pablo Escobar.

One day, he decides to make his dream come true by going to Medellin on the trail of a drug lord. But upon arriving in this city with a dark past, Pablito is kidnapped by Narcos, who demands a colossal ransom. His brother Reda (Ramsey Bedia) convinces his two friends, Stan (Frank Gastambid) and Chafiq (Anuar Tubal) to follow him to find him.

Humor, action and… mixed reviews

along with Medellin, Frank Gastambid Far from the dramatic genre of these two successful series: Validé and La Cage. Here the actor and director mix humor with action, as they already did in Taxi 5. It makes for absolutely explosive comedy!

Barely released on our screens, it shot to number one on Prime Video in less than 24 hours. In particular, he managed to bring down the spy series Citadel. A resounding success, due in large part to crazy chases through narrow alleys and rooftops of Escobar’s barrio, as well as fights and explosions.

However, reviews are mixed. AlloCiné has been credited by internet users Medellin Rating 2 out of 5, below average. And the comments are not more positive, as we can read below:

“One of the worst couriers…” (CityHunter14)

“This movie is a waste of time” (Jeremy V)

“It doesn’t fly very high, the direction is meaningless, there is no real scenario. It’s just an excuse to run.” (chic)

“The idea was good, with great sets, but the script had already been seen and discussed, too bad, it could have been good.” (Jean Pierre M.)

But be sure that in this group of reviews, each one more negative than the last, we still note a few flattering words, such as:

“This new movie Frank Gastambid just amazing” (lia)

“It is entertaining, beautiful, not vulgar, funny and disturbingnt…” (Teral Giles)

“Incredible images of Medellin and an exciting story” (Jerempavan1)

“I had a great time watching this movie, which successfully combines action, humor and a beautifully written script” (letter)

You’ll find out, so it’s up to you!
