Only 11 days left until Christmas! As the time to get together with the family is dangerously close, TMC offers Christmas TV movies every weekend to get you in the holiday spirit.
This Saturday, December 14 at 10:15am, the channel will air A Hell of a Christmas with Fran Drescher, who played the iconic Fran Fine in A Nanny from Hell.
A homosexual novel
Accompanied by his best friend Maddy, Hugo returns to spend the Christmas holidays with his mother in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She keeps meeting Patrick, a young man who attended the same high school as her more than ten years ago.
Hugo and Patrick feel an immediate attraction to each other, but Hugo’s impending departure casts a shadow over their romance, especially when Hugo is offered a promotion that forces him to move to London, which he decides to accept. He must also help his mother prepare a magical festival for all the residents of Carroll Avenue and save the town’s historic train station, which is in danger of demolition.
is it worth watching
Christmas TV movies will invade our television screens from November. And every year, it’s always the same story: an ambitious woman living in a big city (preferably New York) finds herself in a small town that only lives for Christmas.
There she meets a handsome young man (rich in the best scenario) who tugs at her heartstrings and encourages her to leave everything behind to finally live happily ever after away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Whether it’s TF1, M6 or every other TNT channel, it’s sometimes hard to find new life in a genre that sees the same gimmicks and sometimes the same actors year after year.
Christmas From Hell, which airs on Tuesday, November 9 at 1:55 p.m., the front page offers a little update. The originality of this TV movie is not in its plot, but in its star couple. While Netflix has already offered inclusive fiction with a smattering of love, Christmas Inferno is the first Christmas TV movie on Lifetime to feature a gay couple.
A revolution for this very conservative genre that very rarely puts characters of color or LGBTQ+ at the center of its intrigue. If the plot doesn’t develop (a young man who finds love in his hometown), the subject takes a leap forward.
No story here, no drama around sexual orientation, no intrigue about the “difficult” reception of parents or family. There are already two characters outside and accepted by all. It’s always refreshing to see that sexual preferences are a fact and not a drama.
And who better to play the matchmaking mother than Khat Fran Drescherwho played Fran Fine for almost 6 years The nanny from hell. The actress is one of the stars of A Christmas Inferno (get the hint?) and stars for the occasion alongside Ben Lewis (Arrow), who plays her son Hugo.
The object of his affection is played by Blake Lee (an unsettling Martin Harris in Cruel Summer), the latter’s husband in town and on screen. Perhaps this relationship explains the undeniable chemistry between the two characters…
In short, if A Christmas from Hell remains a fairly classic holiday tale, the TV movie manages to offer us a touching and simple love story that captivates us until the end and almost makes us want a second opus.
