Season 5 of Astrid and Raphael, currently airing on France 2, tested the character played by Sarah Mortensen. Astrid really had to face the demons of her past when the mysterious Sam reappeared.
All season long, she’s been haunted by this man without knowing why. However, in episode 5 we learn that he met her at an equestrian center as a teenager.
Unfortunately, he no longer remembers this period. Episode 7, which airs this Friday, December 13 on France 2, however, will allow Astrid to find the answers to this mystery.
Astrid recovers her memory
In this new opus, Astrid and Raphael go to a prestigious stable to investigate the murder of a horse that has been mauled. However, the case becomes even more difficult for the two investigators when another crime is suddenly committed.
A new investigation that will allow Astrid to confront her memories. He actually remembers working in a stable as a teenager and being abused by a man who worked there.
Sam, who is also autistic, came to her rescue. That explains why he blocked it from his memory: it was associated with sad memories for Astrid. An episode that allows us to discover a new aspect of the consultant’s past and that also sheds light on the violence that autistics sometimes face because of their differences.
The importance of talking about violence
To write the scripts for the episodes of Astrid and Rafael, the authors call on autistic consultants who give them advice to better adhere to reality. During an interview with detective series screenwriter Alexandre de Seguines, AlloCiné asked him if the story about Astrid was inspired by one of these consultants.
“These are really testimonials that have inspired me“- he explained to us. “To be completely honest, the idea didn’t start there, but when we started working on this arch, it came to us very quickly. It was important to discuss this topic.“
“In the series, we show Astrid’s journey, for which everything goes well in all possible worlds. He now has his place in the crime squad and people understand his difference. Everyone behaves towards him as people should behave in real life.“
“We wanted to be able to balance everything and witness that violence. Autistic people are victims of violence and harassment. This is a fact, documented and even quantified. So it was important for a series like ours to be a vector of that message.”
