Summary

The average price of insurance for electrified vehicles is R$3,400, while for hybrids it is R$4,400.

Hybrid and electric vehicles are attracting the interest of countless consumers looking for a more sustainable and economical alternative. However, for those who are considering making this transition, you need to be aware of the price of insurance.

Data made available by Agger, partner of insurance brokers with the largest insurance management and quoting platform in Brazil, indicate that the average price of policies for electrified vehicles is around R$3,400, while for hybrids R4.4 thousand $.

The average value of insurance may vary depending on factors such as make, model, region where the driver lives and risk profile. See the ranking below with the 3 best-selling cars in each category, according to a survey by the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE) carried out in September.

“As the electric car market grows, the expectation is that these prices will become more competitive. Like any other type of car, before consumers purchase a hybrid or electric model, it is important that they carry out market research to compare different insurance quotes and understand which one best suits their needs,” advises Gabriel Ronacher, CEO of Agger.

The study “Advancing on the Paths of Automotive Decarbonization in Brazil”, carried out by Anfavea (National Association of Automobile Manufacturers) in collaboration with the consultancy firm Boston Consulting Group, estimates that the sale of these models could exceed that of combustion vehicles until the end of this decade, reaching 1.5 million in 2030, potentially representing more than 90% in 2040.

According to the document, the automotive sector in Brazil is currently responsible for the annual emission of 242 million tons of CO2, which corresponds to approximately 13% of the country’s total emissions. If the current growth rate is maintained, these emissions could reach 256 million tonnes by 2040.

Anfavea highlights that the adoption of new propulsion technologies developed by domestic manufacturers, combined with the increased use of biofuels, has the potential to reduce up to 280 million tonnes of CO2 over the next 15 years. However, this progress depends on the creation of an ecosystem that includes the supply chain, charging infrastructure, energy generation and distribution, as well as biofuel production.

“The growing popularity of electric cars not only benefits society, but also opens up new opportunities and challenges for the insurance market. Together with the adoption of innovative technologies, it will be increasingly necessary for the insurance market to adapt to this change”, underlines the CEO of Agger.
